Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

  1. Spam & Floods

Spamming with regards to IRC, is sending a high quantity of non-sensical or garbled lines of text into a channel (or multiple channels) with the intent of irritating chatters. This also includes leaving a channel and joining it quickly to create 'join/part spam', changing your nick excessively within a short space of time (nick spam), advertising a website or another irc channel repeatedly (advertising spam) and disconnecting/reconnecting to a network repeatedly. Do not spam the irc network or any of its channels.

Flooding is similar to spam, but most of the time is repeating the same thing over and over again in a channel quickly. This can happen when somebody pastes in a large passage of text into a channel however — this is fine so long as the channel operators agree to it. Do not flood channels with the intent of irritating and disrupting other users.

Note: If you are suffering from this sort of behaviour in your channel, read our guide to Using Chanserv to Stop Spam.

  2. Bot-nets & Bot-herding

Botnets are STRICTLY prohibited on this network and any botnet activity will be stopped immediately and reported to the authorities. Not only are botnets a nusiance to other legitimate users, the ownership & operation thereof is completely illegal. Do not bring your botnets onto our network. You are however, allowed to bring a bot onto the network for entertainment so long as you inform our operators and give it the +B usermode.

  3. Harassment

Bothering other users on the network is prohibited. If you are bothering somebody and they ask you to leave them alone, please do. If you are reported to the administrators for being a pest toward another user and the administrators feel that the complaint is justified, you will be removed from the network. We understand that some users are 'argumentative' and will stir up more trouble than others, and that IRC is a discussion protocol and great for debate; For this reason we are chose to (most of the time) stay out of private discussions and/or arguements and let users settle it between themselves. We shall only step in if we deem it necessary.

Harassment encompasses, but is not limited to: Verbal abuse, Derogatory remarks (towards race, religion, skin colour, background or similar), Sexual harassment, and threatening behaviour. If you are a victim of this sort of behaviour and would like to report it, contact an operator.

  4. Clones & Trusts

We monitor cloning on the network closely. We understand that in some situations, you will require a larger amount of concurrent connections (due to a school network, or an ISP proxy that you cannot get around). We try to be accomodating for all within reasonable boundaries. However, the clone limit is there for a reason on our network, and if you attempt to evade it then we shall block your access to the network completely. If you require a trust of some description, or you are are seeking permission for external bouncers to connect to the network, please seek the assistance of an IRC operator. Otherwise, please keep the clones away. They are not welcome!

  5. Abuse

Access to this IRC Network is a privilage and not a right. The operators that run it do so for their own enjoyment and at the expense of their own free time and money. If you are caught being abusive to the operators, or abuse the IRC Services provided to you on this IRC network, you will be removed from the network and not allowed to return.
